Prima di mettere a punto il progetto definitivo di Nice 5.0 vi è stata una lunga fase progettuale che prevedeva di posizionare nel complesso produttivo e direzionale anche l’area ricerca e sviluppo (R & D).
L’area ricerca e sviluppo è ritenuta essere il “cuore” di Nice; in questa ipotesi che abbiamo subito chiamato del “disco volante” si era pensato di metterla al centro, sospesa tra l'headquarter e la produzione; l’area R & D che viniva immaginata come tre grandi anelli a forma di elisse ruotati ad ogni piano per suggerire il “movimento”, movimento che è la “funzione” dei prodotti Nice.

Before completing the final
Nice 5.0 project, there was a long planning phase which involved the positioning of the research and development (R & D) area in the production
and management complex.
The research and development area is believed to be the
"heart" of Nice. In this hypothesis, the area which we nick-named the "flying saucer" from the start, was imagined in the centre, suspended between the headquarter and the production area, and conceived as three, stacked, large ellipse-shaped 'rings' and with each 'ring' rotated in a
different position on each floor to suggest "movement", just as the movement in the
"function" of the Nice products.
